Yes. Vinland is the name the Norse gave to the North American coastline they reached around the year 1000, recorded in the Saga of the Greenlanders and the Saga of Erik the Red. The only confirmed Norse site in North America is L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland, discovered in 1960, and a 2021 study dated its timbers to exactly 1021. The name is usually translated as wine land, after the grapes the sagas describe, though some scholars argue the root refers to meadow or pasture instead.

Thorfinn Karlsefni was a real Icelandic trader and explorer recorded in the sagas. Unlike the earlier voyages, his was an actual colonization attempt, sailing with livestock, supplies, and women rather than a scouting crew. The sagas name his son Snorri, born in Vinland, as the first child of European descent born in North America. The expedition ultimately turned back after conflict with the people already living there.
